Gotta love Oanh's! This place has to be one of my favorite Vietnamese places in OC. I am not Vietnamese but this is comfort food to me, especially in the winter. I always order the #1 Banh Canh (Crab & Shrimp Vietnamese paste Udon). The broth is thick and rich, unlike any other soup I've had before. Also love the shrimp and fish cakes that they add. Place usually isn't busy during the week, service is great! Would I go again? Absolutely!

No need to look at anything else on the menu. Order the #2 Cang Bun Cha Ca. This noodle hits the soul the minute you try it. It's full of flavor but not thick and heavy like the #1 Bahn Canh (which I also ordered and was good) they're generous with the Ong Choy (greens) and the fish patty and fried tofu were nice. Could use better proteins like the Banh Canh Cua. But the soup flavor was unmatched! $14.75. Hands down 5 out of 5! The #1 Banh Canh Cua $14.75 was also good. Thick and flavorful with excelente shrimp and pork slices. Udon texture was subpar and could be chewier. It would break easy when I would like more elasticity to it. The broth was nicely thickened and had a generous amount of what felt like dried crab. 4 out of 5. Corn milk was just good. I was curious to try this $4.75 and it was good. It's literally corn and milk blended. It's thick and they add tons of ice which dilutes it too quickly losing its flavor. I wouldn't order this again as it wasn't that impressive. Service was very attentive and warm. The place got full fast around noon on a weekend so come early if you don't want to wait. Quiet ambiance

Located in the rear side of the 99 cents store. Establishment is pretty small but not rundown. Became a full house of patrons as I just came before the lunch rush. Decent bun rieu soup! You get about 7-8 pieces of snail, 3 fried tofu cubes, 2 crab Patties, & 1 piece of cha lua packed with lemon grass. Too bad no blood cubes included in this bowl of soup. Be sure to request mam Tom sauce "fermented shrimp paste" which adds a lot of umami flavor! Parking can be quite tight around the area and also watch out for POT HOLES!

I got one of their four most popular dishes, canh bun. It's unique since it has cha cả. My go to for canh bún is Bình Minh. While Mama Oanh is good, I don't think it's as good as Bình Minh. The broth is tasty but it's not to the point where I would want to drink the entire bowl. I think it's missing something because I wasn't full afterward. I want to come back to try the other three dishes. The place is very clean and modern. Overall, it's a good restaurant. For Thinsulin fans, there's some green light options.

I have been looking for good Northern bun rieu oc to avoid the high fat, high cholesterol dishes. Mama Oanh nails it perfect. Her $15 bun rieu oc soup is creamy, tasty real crab broth, with both fresh and salt water snails, chunks of minced crab, a large roll of cha oc, served with generous plate of peeled water morning glories, sliced banana flower, bean sprout and herbs. It tasted as good or even better than authentic soup carts on the sidewalk of Hanoi, without the muddy odors of fresh water snails which I don't miss. Bun rieu oc here is very tasty, very high quality with large portion, a very good value. This is easily my favorite place in so cal for bun rieu. The place is nice, clean, pleasant, behind Mall of Fortune on Brookhurst and Westminster. Mama Oanh is in the kitchen cooking while her little daughter serves the food. She's a Southern woman. I am surprised she can make authentic Northern food. Will bring friends to try her other dishes.

I really enjoyed the crab noodle soup with fish cake. My 4-year old also enjoyed the soup and egg rolls. Will definitely be back to try bun rieu. Added to my list of favorite vietnamese restaurants.

So, a little background info about me: Chinese all my life, haha, and always loved tripe, intestines, stews. With that said, we went to Mama's first time and ordered the most expensive item which was the Special Intestine Curry Stew with baguette. I'm not joking when I say this is a life changer for me. Soooo dayem good, I'm so excited to visit other Viet places to compare their intestine stew with Mama's. If you like texture and taste of intestines/tripe, I suggest this place. It gave me so much joy!!!! I'm in love with item 17. Lol.
